Though not a traditional book so much as a collection of interviews culled from the pages of Decibel Magazine, Precious Metal is one of the best guides to the often impenetrable world of extreme metal one could hope for. Giving coverage to every relevant subgenre, from traditional metal (Black Sabbath, Diamond Head, Celtic Frost) to death metal (Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary), and everything in between (Botch, Repulsion, Kyuss, Eyehategod, Emperor), the book provides an intimate glance into the making of 25 of the greatest metal records of all time.  Featuring commentary from every band member involved in the recording process, one truly gets a sense of what it was like to record these records, from the impoverished lifestyle the members of New Orleanians Eyehategod lived through during the making of their debut full-length Take As Needed For Pain, to the write/tour/record grind of Converge’s Jane Doe sessions. While some truly epic records didn’t make the final cut (where, oh where is Brutal Truth’s Need To Control or Atheist’s Unquestionable Presence?!), the book is absolutely essential for both die-hard headbangers and weekend warriors alike.
