Decatur High School’s Journalism and Broadcasting staffs report what happens in and around Decatur, but students can only investigate so far. Emmy award winning journalist Andrea Berry, however, gets the deeper look at what happens in the school system and reports her findings back to the residents of Decatur.Berry created an online video channel called Decatur EDtv in June 2008 to record various aspects of City Schools of Decatur. “Since my professional experience was in commercial and public radio and television,” she said, “I wanted to use online video to do in-depth reports on Decatur EDtv.”

Even after her daughter graduated from Decatur High School, Berry worked hard to earn her place as a resident Decatur journalist. She gets inside looks at meetings and information that may not be open to many eyes.

“I started Decatur EDtv… as a way to highlight some of the good work being done by teachers, staff, and students in the City Schools of Decatur,” Berry said.

The community, as well as the state of Georgia, have been thrilled by Decatur EDtv so far. Promptly after it began, Decatur EDtv received recognition from the Georgia School Boards Association. Berry says the Decatur community as well as outside groups continue to show praise for the video magazine.

Decatur EDtv updates regularly (a new feature every week!) with videos featuring City Schools of Decatur faculty meetings, student events, and talent found throughout town. The videos can be found on the Decatur EDtv page on Facebook or on the Decatur EDtv website (www.decaturedtv.com).
