I was born in New Mexico, home of the chili peppers. I have a chicken named Lord Voldemort, I like reading books about the end of the world, and I’m an awful saver of money. Other than that, I’ve lived in Decatur for 14 out of 15 years, I’m in the 11th grade, and I want to go to Duke for college. I’ve been writing since preschool, when my first assignment was to describe my parents. I wrote that my dad was 8 feet tall, spaghetti and meatballs were his favorite things to eat, and he loved Nascar. I mean, who doesn’t?

I am way too immature for my age. I am a lanky six feet tall but with the attention span of a first grader. Most people describe me as funny, lazy, goofy, hyper, slackerful, optimistic, nice, weird and most importantly: AWESOME! This is my first year on the scribbler staff. I run cross country for Decatur. I have an obnoxious but caring younger sister who is 10 years old. My favorite subject in school is Spanish. I am a HUGE Georgia Tech fan. Lastly, I am addicted to drinking Gatorade because it tastes good.

Mawal Sidi
I am sophomore Class President, and this is my first year in Scribbler. I am BIG on traveling because I have relatives in every continent except South America and Antarctica. My first language is Arabic, but I forgot 90 percent of it, so I’ve been trying to reteach myself. One of my interests is doing makeup not just to cover up a blemish but to turn it into a form of art. My biggest fear is that I will graduate high school, go to college, get a job, get married and have kids just like the average person, but I am not the average person. I want to impact the world some how and turn into someone worth remembering.

I am a first year member of the Scribbler Staff, and I welcome the position as a great opportunity. I am a junior and have lived in Decatur for my entire life. I have a younger sister who is currently in the eighth grade. I play soccer for Atlanta Spurs FC at the Classic I level and for the Varsity team at Decatur and hope to continue playing for as long as I can. I love my Volvo station wagon. She is my best friend. Also, I am semi-fluent in Spanish and enjoy spending time with my friends and family.

I make lists and plans in my head constantly. This has essentially led me to plan out my life. For now, I’m here in Decatur being pretty normal with school work, club and varsity soccer and friends. After I graduate, I plan to attend Emory University and go back to being the obnoxious freshmen annoying my older brother, Steven Broyles. This is my first year on the Scribbler staff, which is perfect to lead me into my choice career, a journalist. After a long life, I would love to sit back and relax and be the crazy cat lady that I aspire to be with Anya Fredsell, my future granny roommate.

I was born in Ethiopia, and I came here at the age of six and have lived in Decatur for about 10 years. I can speak and write in four languages. By the time I die, I want to have learned Arabic and Hebrew. I love to read ancient fiction books. I love to watch bollywood movies and do international dance. I want to go to Emory University and become either a cardiovascular surgeon or an anesthesiologist.

I use to build cities that expanded over my entire bedroom floor that represented New York, Portland or any other town in my mind. Play-mobile figurines were at large in these cities, and the little plastic folk flourished alongside my cardboard creations. I enjoy the thought of creating something that didn’t exist in the world before, for instance, my pencil touching paper has the greatest potential to create anything out of nothing. I find it wonderful to dawdle through a forest with no thought of where you are or where your going. Words fascinate me because they create a bridge between minds and perspectives. They have the power to change every aspect of myself, and that influence and potential thrills me. I fancy my brother Sam to be one of the greatest amusements of my life. I take great pride in that boy because he’s clever to an extremity. I have no plans for the future other than following Sam to wherever he ends up. When you have something you love, why give it up?

When I was little, I would go to the zoo and try to talk to animals. I would mutter commands under my breath like, “sit, elephant, sit!” The elephants never listened. I still don’t why. I’m addicted to the color pink, and I don’t have any pets…oh wait, I do! I completely forgot about my little brother, Jordan. Running is my yoga. I eat my noodles with cheese but not butter. I played the guitar when I was little but quit because my teacher scared me. I rip letters funny, Justin Bieber is my future husband and I am absolutely, totally, completely, really, really excited to be on the 2011-2012 Decatur High School Scribbler staff.

Sophomore, first year on scribbler, loving every minute of it. I love the company of others and have a hard time enjoying being alone. I spend a majority of my time singing, dancing, writing and just listening to music. I can always find a song that describes exactly how I feel, even when I can’t find the right words.

I like whales. I also like things that remind me of whales, like dolphins, the ocean, swimming, art, nature and my brother. I like him a lot, which is totally reasonable because he’s great. I don’t tend to care what people think about me. Yeah, I have an excessive amount of quirks, but imperfections and I, we get along. I strongly believe in musical talent, and cherish most every bit I hear of it (so not Ke$ha guys, don’t get me started on her). Equality and peace are pretty much the only things you’ll hear me raise my voice for, which I would venture to say is reasonable. I went to Arbor Montessori for eleven years, with the same people, suffice to say I like to meet knew ones. Carpe Diem is a great resource to use to get to know people, so being on staff is a splendid perk!

I enjoy the energy and adreline rush of spirit, companionship, and risking it. Examples: college gamedays, and I want to go skydiving really badly. The Dawgs and Dogs are awesome, and will always be awesome, for the outdoors is where it’s at.
If you ever need a boost of energy, I can help.

Hello. My name is Sam. I was born and raised in Decatur, Georgia. I’m the inquisitive one, the kid who raises his hand too much, especially in science class. I love Jazz music, programming, and anything that sounds like fun. Scribbler is one of the many ways I’m trying to find myself, and figure out who I will become.

This is my third year on the Scribbler staff, and it is just as hectic but exciting as ever. Other than Scribbler, I love Spanish; I went to Barcelona over the summer, and I currently take AP Spanish. One of my greatest accomplishments is getting on Pottermore early (don’t judge).

Think of the best cookie you’ve ever eaten. I probably made it. I’ve spent my entire 16 years on this planet (specifically Decatur) baking. I even lost my first tooth when I accidentally bit down on the Kitchenaid mixer beater when I was licking the dough off.
When I’m not baking I will be editing for Scribbler. Or enjoying science-y things (currently AP Bio is my favorite subject). Or watching reruns of the best show ever, Pushing Daisies. You should watch them too.

I have a full plate—everything from playing classical piano, to reciting from the Torah, to playing basketball. My dream is to attend Yale University for college, though I would have to leave my animals behind. I share my house with three humans, two dogs, three cats, and a penguin that has lost its nose (blame one of the dogs). I have lived in Decatur for all fifteen years of my life – except when I travel (another one of my passions; I have been to 8 countries.) I am on the Scribbler staff and plan to write stories this year and in future years.

I can teach you how to tie a sailor’s knot or recite an Edna St.Vincent Millay poem. Do not stick me in a situation where people say “according to my calculations.” I love ancient romance novels, nicknames, and frog noises. I am here to give my all to Scribbler, and don’t be afraid to tell me my flaws, and don’t ever hesitate to sing along with me.
Ready? I am too.
